Will My Sofa Fit Through the Door?
Enter your sofa and doorway measurements and see whether it can get through, which way round, and where the limits of the check are.
A sofa bed is a different shape closed and open. Enter its sizes and the space in front of the wall it will stand against, and find out whether it opens fully, with room left to use it.
The mistake most people make is measuring the sofa and forgetting the bed. A sofa that is 90 cm deep closed can reach more than 2 metres into the room when it is open, and that is before you add the space to get in and out of it.
If the bed is for guests or a rental, comfort at the foot of the bed matters more than usual, because guests will not know the room. The checker gives you the sleeping size of the bed too, so you can match it to the number of people you want to host. See our furniture for Airbnb and holiday lets for ideas, or browse all our sofa beds.
Look in the product details or specification for the "open size" or "bed size". It is usually given as a width and a length, and the length is close to how far the bed reaches from the back of the sofa. If you cannot find it, choose the bed size in the form and we will estimate it from the mattress length plus about 20 cm for the frame.
Enough to stand at the foot and make the bed up, which is about 50 cm. If there is a door or a route through the room in front of it, aim for about 75 cm so people can still walk past. Space at the side is a bonus, not a necessity.
Most sofa beds open forwards from the back, so the sofa can stay against the wall. Some designs, such as click-clack beds where the back folds flat, move differently. Check how yours works in the product details, and measure behind it if it moves backwards.
Roughly, yes. The open depth is the mattress length plus the frame at the back. A double and a small double are usually the same length, and a king is about 10 cm longer, but a wider mattress mainly needs a wider sofa.
It follows the size of the bed. A single is for one person. A small double suits one adult comfortably, or two for a short stay. A double or king suits two adults. For holiday lets, remember that guests will also want floor space to move around.
Because that decides how much clear space you need after the bed is open. A quiet corner needs room to stand at the foot of the bed. A route to a door needs a proper walkway as well.

A divan or ottoman base cannot fold. Check it through your doorway and round a tight corner, and see whether a two-part base would help.
